Conservation practices modify soil phosphorus sorption properties and the composition of dissolved phosphorus losses during runoff

چکیده
It is well established that shallow tillage (ST) and no-tillage (NT) of cultivated soils can have higher risk dissolved phosphorus (P) loss during runoff than conventional (CT). However, quantitative descriptors how differences in practices influence soil P sorption properties these turn remain lacking. Moreover, the on forms P, particularly molybdate unreactive (MUDP), has rarely been investigated. Thus, we simulated using pilot had experienced three (CT, ST, NT) two types fertilization (pig poultry manure) for 20 years. The results indicated shifting from CT to ST or NT changed soil’s capacity bind increased Olsen-P, Dyer-P, equilibrium concentration (EPC0), water soluble (WSP), degree saturation (DPSOX). experiment confirmed switching could increase runoff. was evident fertilizations manure with an amplified effect modality. Switching MUDP, which again fertilization, percentage MUDP more 40% TDP. Correlations between assessment indicators were positive, but DPSOX opposite predicted other indicators, indicating not suitable predicting loss. Our suggest should be considered when assessing adopting NT, since bioavailable thus contribute eutrophication surface water.

متن کاملPhosphorus Runoff Losses from Alfalfa
Phosphorus (P) released from plants after freezing at the end of the growing season may be a contributor to P in runoff from agricultural landscapes. We evaluated P release from alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) and mixed grass species [mainly quackgrass (Agropyron repens)] after freezing or drying in laboratory and field studies. Freezing released 18-30 % of the total P as dissolved reactive P (DRP...
متن کاملRelating soil phosphorus to dissolved phosphorus in runoff: a single extraction coefficient for water quality modeling.
Phosphorus transport from agricultural soils contributes to eutrophication of fresh waters. Computer modeling can help identify agricultural areas with high potential P transport. Most models use a constant extraction coefficient (i.e., the slope of the linear regression between filterable reactive phosphorus [FRP] in runoff and soil P) to predict dissolved P release from soil to runoff, yet it...

Previous research shows that dissolved P losses in runoff are well related to soil test P (STP), thus, various P loss prediction models incorporate the use of a STP vs. runoff DRP relationship. However, the relationship between STP and runoff DRP will vary based on soil type due to differences in soil properties. The purposes of the first two studies were to (i) investigate the effect of soil m...

Phosphorus (P) often limits the eutrophication of streams, rivers, and lakes receiving surface runoff. We evaluated the relationships among selected soil P availability indices and runoff P fractions where manure, whey, or commercial fertilizer applications had previously established a range of soil P availabilities on a Portneuf silt loam (coarse-silty, mixed, superactive, mesic Durinodic Xeri...
